First Visit & New Patient Exam
Thorough exams and accurate diagnoses
Dr. Goch and his staff’s main interest is in providing you with the services you need to get and keep your mouth and teeth healthy.
The first step towards achieving this is an accurate assessment of the condition of your teeth and gums. This gives us the information we need to create a treatment plan, usually with options to account for different lifestyle and budgetary needs.
When doing a new patient exam, we take your insurance coverage into account, but generally the first visit consists of the following steps.
Digital X-rays emit around 80% less radiation than conventional X-rays. During your exam, a full set of digital X-rays are taken to detect any cavities between the teeth as well as how deep a cavity is and if there is any infection.
Thorough oral exam
Dr. Goch conducts an oral exam to check the condition of your teeth and gums as well as the inside of the mouth and throat. It is also a visual check for signs of oral cancer.
Your gums are checked for any gum disease by taking measurements and charting the results. The health of your gums is of primary importance to keeping your teeth, so this is an important step.
Intraoral camera photos
Digital pictures are taken of your teeth and gums so that the dentist or hygienist can show you what is going on inside your mouth. This is an invaluable tool for educating you and to help you to improve your oral hygiene.
Dr. Goch will look over your medical history and your X-rays and discuss these with you. He will inform you of any problems that he sees during the exam and will answer any questions you have about your oral health.
A thorough cleaning is often part of the initial visit. Our friendly, experienced hygienists ensure that you leave the practice with a nice clean, fresh mouth.
